Chaos at Airport After Bomb Threat Targets Mumbai-Ahmedabad Flight FIR Filed in Navi Mumbai

A normal Wednesday turned chaotic after a Mumbai bomb threat email claimed an explosive was placed on a Mumbai-Ahmedabad flight. The same message also warned of a possible blast at an international airport. Within minutes, panic kicked in. Flights were delayed, security swarmed the place, and nervous passengers were left staring at each other, unsure what was happening.

Navi Mumbai Police registered an FIR and started a probe in connection with the Mumbai bomb threat, involving calls about a bomb on a Mumbai-Ahmedabad flight and a warning to blow up Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, an official said on Thursday.

One of the airport staff whispered to a colleague, “This doesn’t look like a drill.” By the time the clock struck noon, police had cordoned off a portion of the terminal, and a full security sweep was in progress.

Plane halted, passengers pulled off

The flight, ready for take-off, was stopped just before taxiing. “We were about to move when everything froze. Suddenly, crew members got orders and calmly told us to step down for rechecking,” said a passenger who requested anonymity.

Another flyer said, “I had my laptop open. They just asked us to leave it and exit fast. No one explained anything, but their faces told us something was serious.”

Sniffer dogs were brought in. Bags were removed one by one. Meanwhile, all announcements inside the airport were either stopped or replaced by vague “technical delay” messages.

Mumbai Bomb Threat: Email Traced to Navi Mumbai

By evening, cyber officials said the bomb threat email was sent from an IP address registered in Navi Mumbai. Navi Mumbai Police filed an FIR under relevant sections of IPC and IT Act. A senior officer at the police station said, “We have taken it seriously. It may be a hoax, but it caused public panic and wasted massive security resources.”

The investigation is now focused on tracing the device or person behind the email. Officials said they have asked for technical help from ISPs and cyber labs.

Fear spreads, operations disrupted

People inside the airport said security checks were suddenly doubled. “There were lines, arguments, some passengers got aggressive,” said Ramesh, a taxi driver who picks up travelers daily. “One man told me he missed his connecting flight because of this.”

By the time it was confirmed as a false alarm, at least 7 domestic flights had faced delays, and one was cancelled. Parents travelling with children were among the most panicked. “My son is 5. He kept asking if something bad will happen. We didn’t have any answers,” said Neha, a mother travelling to Vadodara.

Officials react: ‘This is not a joke’

Airport authorities later addressed the media and clarified that nothing dangerous was found. However, they said this kind of threat—real or fake—can’t be ignored.

“We can’t treat this lightly. Any message like this has to be treated as real until proven otherwise,” said a CISF officer off record.

The threat might have been fake, but the reaction was very real. Hundreds of passengers were caught in fear, delays, and confusion—something that can’t be erased just because no bomb was found.

Mumbai Bomb Threat Probe Ongoing, No Arrests Yet

As of late evening, no person had been detained. Police said their cyber cell was actively tracking the email trail, and teams were already working through digital clues. No group has claimed responsibility so far.

“Even if it’s just mischief, there are legal consequences,” said an officer. “This is not a college prank. This disrupted the entire airport. Someone will answer for this.”
