CGHS Rates to Be Updated Soon Says Health Minister
After years of concern over rising medical expenses, central government employees and pensioners finally have a reason to breathe easy. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has announced that the CGHS rates revised 2025 will soon be implemented — a long-pending demand that impacts lakhs of families across India.

“This decision is for the people who have served the nation and now deserve quality healthcare without financial stress,” Mandaviya said during a health policy meet on Thursday.
CGHS Rates Revised 2025: Why It Matters
The Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) was created to provide affordable medical care to central government workers and retirees. But for a long time now, the rates fixed under the scheme have not matched real-world hospital charges. Patients are often forced to pay from their own pocket or face rejection from private hospitals unwilling to accept CGHS cards.
“My wife needed an MRI, but the CGHS panel hospital told us the rates hadn’t been updated in years. We had to pay full price outside,” shared Rajeev Mehra, a retired railway officer in Bhopal.
What the Government Plans
Minister Mandaviya did not mention an exact date, but assured that the CGHS package rates will soon be realigned with today’s healthcare costs. The revision will include:
- In-patient and outpatient treatment costs
- Diagnostic tests like MRI, CT scan, and X-ray
- Surgical procedure packages
- Hospital room charges
- Doctor consultation fees
The aim is to ensure that CGHS beneficiaries are no longer turned away by hospitals or forced to wait indefinitely for approvals.
Hospitals May Return to the Fold
Several private hospitals had stopped accepting CGHS patients due to low reimbursement rates. With the new pricing structure, more hospitals are expected to return to the CGHS panel, making treatment more accessible — especially in smaller towns where options are limited.
“We welcome the government’s decision. The scheme needed a fresh breath of life,” said Dr. Nidhi Rawat, who runs a private hospital in Jaipur.
CGHS Rates Revised 2025: Hope for Govt Employees
Employee associations, too, have welcomed the move. “This is not just about money. It’s about dignity and care. Our members have waited for years. We hope this isn’t just another announcement but a policy shift that truly helps people,” said a spokesperson from a central government employee union.
