Income Tax Return Deadline Extended to September 15
Big Relief for Taxpayers: ITR Filing Deadline Now Extended to September 15
In some welcome news, the Indian government has pushed the deadline for filing income tax returns from July 31 to September 15, 2025. For many salaried individuals and small business owners, it’s a sigh of relief.Chartered accountants and tax filers had been raising concerns about portal issues, missing documents, and audit season pressures. And finally, the authorities listened.I was panicking because a few Form-16s were delayed,” said Prakash Mehta, a software engineer in Pune. “This extension gives me the breather I needed.”

The Finance Ministry shared that the move is intended to ease pressure and help improve compliance. They emphasized that it’s not a license to delay, but a chance for accurate, stress-free filing.
For those not covered under audit provisions, the extension means one thing: more time, less chaos.
Tax experts now recommend using this extra window to double-check all numbers, link PAN with Aadhaar (if not already done), and submit returns early to avoid the rush in September.
This isn’t the first extension, but in today’s fast-moving digital setup, such decisions matter — especially when tech glitches or real-life delays make the original deadline hard to meet.
