Bihar on High Alert After Nepal Drone Scare

Panic on the Border: Drones from Nepal Trigger High Alert in Bihar

It started like any other evening in the quiet villages near Bihar’s Nepal border — dinner plates were being cleared, people sat outside chatting, and children played in the narrow lanes.

Then came the strange buzzing in the sky.

At first, it was just one light, then another. Within minutes, nearly 15 to 20 drones were spotted flying low over villages like Bhitthamore in Sitamarhi district. Locals say the drones hovered for almost 40 minutes, sending waves of confusion and fear.

“We’ve never seen anything like it,” said Rekha Devi, a mother of three. “The lights were moving silently. I grabbed my children and ran inside.”

By the time police and security teams arrived, the drones were gone — vanishing into the night sky as mysteriously as they came.

No bombs. No packages. Just shadows and questions.

But officials aren’t taking it lightly.

“This was not normal,” said a senior officer from the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). “We’re on high alert. We’ve increased drone surveillance and are coordinating with central intelligence agencies.”

What’s more unsettling is the unusual nature of the incident — such drone sightings are rare along the Indo-Nepal border, which has long been considered relatively peaceful.

Bihar’s Home Department has now sought reports from the border posts, and patrolling has been doubled in the region. “Even if nothing was dropped, this may have been a test — a dry run,” one local officer said.

Back in the village, fear lingers. People are keeping their doors shut at dusk, and eyes are glued to the sky.

“We don’t want war,” said elderly farmer Ram Lal. “But we deserve to feel safe.”
