Mumbai’s Morning Drenched by Monsoon’s First Big Downpour

Mumbai, May 26:
The city that never stops had to hit the brakes today. Waking up to dark skies and a soaked skyline, Mumbaikars stepped into over 100mm of rain — all poured in just one night. For some, the rain was a cool relief after days of dry heat. But for many others, it meant drenched shoes, traffic snarls, and long train delays. From Dadar to Andheri, roads looked more like rivers. And as always, Kurla was among the worst hit.

Local trains limped along slower than usual, and auto-rickshaw fares quietly soared. Still, cafes buzzed with chai lovers, and children splashed in puddles like they’d been waiting all summer.

The IMD says more rain is coming, possibly heavier. Officials are asking people to stay alert, especially in low-lying areas where flooding tends to get worse fast.
